Introduction
At the Family History Weekend, Dudley Ferdinando lent me a most interesting
book about the History of the Abbey Street Sunday Schools in Bethnal
Green. The primary name that both he and I are interested in, is that of
Joseph Young (senior) Ferdinando who was superintendent and a teacher at the
school and appears on pages 18
21
28
31
32.
However, a number of other local names appear in this book and these are listed below
together with the page numbers that the name appears on. You can
click on the link to go to the page in question. Please note that the pages
are larger than normal and so will take a while to download - this is to
maintain the quality of the text itself. Dudley has also provided a copy
to the East of London Family History Society for their library. I have been extremely lucky to have been in
correspondence with one of the Publishers (J S Forsaith) descendants and I hope
that I will be able to add some more to this area in the future. For the
moment here are some brief details.

Ferdinand & Ferdinando Interest: There are a number of
names that are of interest, firstly Joseph Young Ferdinando himself followed by
Joseph Wiley and Mr. Bellett, whose names we know from the tree but I cannot
vouch that these are the actual ones. Also, Mr. R. L. Sturtevant who
appears on Elizabeth Ferdinando's death certificate as Informant as the Master
of the Workhouse (Bethnal Green) |

How to Search and Use this Area
How to search?: The names are entered into the index below
by surname. Where that person appears on a page the page is
highlighted and linked through to the scan of that page. Click on the
link(s) to go the pages where that person is mentioned. Pages will appear
as a pair of pages in a new window. Where a letter on the index is not underlined
(providing a link) no surnames commence with that letter. Finally the
surnames are entered "as they appear" in the book and not in true
"dictionary" fashion. Alternatively you can
browse through the images contained in the Book Files.
Warning. This
page will take sometime to download as it contains thumbnail images of all the
book's pages. Once on this page you can click on an image to load that page
in a new window. ALL images are large to preserve text
quality and so following a link will take a while to download.
